The biggest, most cosmopolitan and, some might say, the most Indian city in the northeast, Guwahati is an essential vip chalets stop on any northeastern vip chalets tour. Ferries (Indian/foreigner 20/100, vehicle 1200; 8.30am & 9.15am) drift lazily down the Brahmaputra to Dibrugarh in Assam from Majerbari Ghat (sumos take one hour from Pasighat, depart at 6am and cost 120). Ferry tickets are sold by Otta Tours & Travel at the sumo stand.
