Conjure up an image of a shimmering blue lake broken up into small lakelets by floating parc du bic islands of thick matted weeds. Add bamboo bridges, tribal people in dugout canoes and thatched hut-villages anchored on to the floating islands, and you have Loktak Lake, one of the few places a foreigner is allowed parc du bic to visit outside of Imphal. More peculiar parc du bic than floating villages are the large, perfectly circular fishing ponds created out of floating parc du bic rings of weeds. The best view is atop Sendra parc du bic Island, more a promontory than island. You can hire a boat (per person 100) in order to get a closer look at lake life.
Sitting almost halfway between Kohima and Mon most people sensibly choose to break their journey in laidback Mokokchung. Aside from enjoying the town s spectacular setting, try to make time for a couple of other low-key attractions including the small, privately run Rendikala Subong Museum (Town Hall Rd; admission 10), which contains parc du bic tribal items collected from surrounding villages as well as what is purported to be the world s smallest Bible. The museum is open whenever someone turns up to see it. A couple of kilometres away is pretty Ungma village, where you ll find a couple of huge log drums and a cloud scrapping Jendong (a pole that helps connect people on Earth with the Gods high up in the skies).
